External Job Description:

Plans, designs and oversees the reconfiguration, maintenance, and alteration of equipment, machinery, buildings, structures, and other facilities. Gathers and reviews data concerning facility or equipment specifications, company or government restrictions, required completion date, and construction feasibility. Coordinates with architecture/engineering firms in developing design criteria and preparing layout and detail drawings. Prepares bid sheets and contracts for construction and facilities acquisition. Reviews and estimates design costs including equipment, installation, labor, materials, preparation, and other related costs. Inspects or directs the inspection of construction and installation progress to ensure conformance to established drawings, specifications, and schedules.

Specific to this position:

Position will report to O41 Plant Engineering Technical Services Group and be part of the Dry Docks Safety Certification Program. Candidate should have structural engineering experience to include performing structural evaluations, conducting building assessments and responding to emergent safety related issues in a fast paced, large industrial facility setting. Position will also support the entire shipyard concerning structural issues, safety issues and equipment related repairs by providing quality technical services support, engineering guidance and regulatory code compliance review/interpretation. Responsibilities will include directing work assignments of consultants and contractors to ensure shipyard facilities and structures are maintained in a safe condition. Performs unplanned event investigations and participates in critiques when necessary. Prepares impact studies and makes recommendations for future capital replacement and day-to-day maintenance initiatives. Strong project management, communication, organizational and computer skills are required. Supports key strategic business development and strategic initiatives as assigned and developed. Ability to complete assigned tasks on schedule and within budget is a must.
